Pajama Party!

Elizabeth's class is having a pajama party today to celebrate Miss Pelar's birthday. The party is BYOB - bring your own bottle. Elizabeth was very excited to be able to wear her PJ's to school.

Don't you like my PJ's?

Who's on the Today show this morning? I'll turn on the TV and see.

Nobody interesting. I'll just eat the remote instead.

Weekend with Dad - Guest Blogger

I'm writing today because Elizabeth and I had an eventful weekend together.

Weekend with Dad!

Friday morning, Elizabeth's daycare hosted a special Father's Day event to show off the classroom to the dads. I wasn't able to stay for the entire time, so I arrived a little early and Elizabeth was the only one in her classroom awake. Even though I missed out on games such as sippy-cup-water-chugging, Elizabeth had the complete attention of her teachers and me. They gave me a coffee mug that she decorated with handprints and finger dots and it went straight to my desk at work. The theme was Sports Day, so I ordered Elizabeth an LSU summer dress, which I thought was perfect for the event. She was, by far, the best dressed one in her class.

Here we are Friday morning before school:

Tiger Paws:

This is easily Elizabeth's favorite toy. In case you can't tell, it's a giant phone. This may be a sign of things to come.

Lauren flew to St. Louis Saturday morning to attend a wedding so Elizabeth and I were on our own until Sunday. We had big plans Saturday morning. After saying bye to Mom, we headed to the second year birthday party for our friend, Adam. The house was filled with more kids than you can believe, most of whom were older than Elizabeth. But she managed to hold her own:

And she quickly tried to escape. Surely this wasn't because I was cramping her style.

We got back home and shared our afternoon snacks on the floor:

And then she crawled all over the place in her pajamas:

We had a great time together and were happy to see Lauren when she arrived home on Sunday afternoon. Have a great week.

On the Move

Here is a video that shows off three of Elizabeth's new tricks:

1. Use of a sippy cup;

2. Making raspberry noises; and

3. Creeping/scooting/general forward progress.

This three minute video may require some patience, so I have chosen this opportunity to experiment with adding music to videos. Enjoy.

As a post-script to yesterday's post, John feels it is important that we provide evidence that we did, in fact, lower the crib mattress and that we are not careless, irresponsible parents. Elizabeth slept in a Pack and Play on Sunday night because we didn't have time to adjust the crib, so, really, we are just lazy parents.

Eight Months Old

Elizabeth turned eight months old last week and we continue to be amazed by how much she is growing and changing each month. This month, she has learned how to "creep," sit in a high chair and feed herself finger foods. She loves to say "ba ba ba," which I'm sure translates to something very intelligent. (Note: the birthday sign in the photo above has been located beyond Elizabeth's reach lest we have a repeat of the seven month photo shoot.)

Beginning a few weeks ago, we noticed that Elizabeth would be on her stomach when we get her up in the morning. She started taking naps on her stomach at school, and just this week we have begun putting her to bed at night on her stomach. She sleeps really well in this position; so well, in fact, that we often encounter a very groggy baby when we go in to wake her up.

Waking up from a long nap:

Hey guys!

Uh, I guess it's time to lower the crib mattress (which we did tonight):

We had another busy weekend, which is the theme of this summer. On Saturday, we co-hosted an engagement party for our good friends, Kristi and Matt, with friends in Decatur. We were too busy being good hosts to take any pictures, but needless to say it was as hot as all-get-out and yet a good time was had by all. On Sunday, we had our neighbors Carrie and Jeff and their son Benjamin (13 months) over for dinner.

Elizabeth is not too sure about Benjamin (and I think the feeling is mutual):

We'll see you at next week's update, assuming we don't die of the heat before then.

Special Weekend

This weekend was a special one for Miss Elizabeth. Papa Charlie and G. Jill came to Atlanta to be with us for Elizabeth's baptism. As you might expect, Elizabeth was on her best behavior for her baptism and smiled and looked around during the whole event. She even managed to sit through the rest of the service (which included the longest sermon of all time) without making any fuss at all.

Here is Elizabeth, more interested in Mom's necklace than posing:

After church, we headed to wonderful celebratory brunch at one of our favorite restaurants, Canoe. Elizabeth was a big girl and sat in a high chair for the first time. We are so excited that the days of lugging the car seat and stroller into a restaurant are behind us.

Elizabeth and G. Jill in front of Canoe:

What's on the menu? Puffs for this little girl.

Elizabeth had some special time with her grandparents on Saturday night, when they babysat while John and I attended a beautiful wedding in Buckhead. It was a treat for us to have an evening out with our friends.

After Papa Charlie and G. Jill left to head back to Arkansas, the three of us relaxed at home. John reports that Elizabeth took three "knee steps" this evening while I was folding laundry in another room. This report remains unsubstantiated at this time.
