Turkey Day 2011

This year, we mixed things up a bit and hosted my family for Thanksgiving at our house.  We loved having everyone here, and not having to deal with a toddler in a busy airport made for a much more relaxing holiday.

Elizabeth and I waited eagerly on the front porch for everyone to arrive on Wednesday afternoon.  She couldn't wait to show them her new toys and dance moves.  We had a good dinner at Garrison's on Wednesday night.  On Thursday, we played and cooked all day and had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner.  Elizabeth joined us for dinner but wasn't much of a fan of anything other than the marshmellows on top of the sweet potato casserole.  We took everyone downtown on Friday to see John's new office and have lunch before heading home to watch the LSU v. Arkansas game.  We were all pleased with the outcome - Geaux Tigers!

Although everyone headed to the airport on Saturday morning, Elizabeth is still talking about "Bapa," "Mimi,"* and "P" and how they all flew on airplanes to go home.  That is, everyone except for Peter, who flew from Atlanta to Australia for a three week work trip.  We wish him safe travels can't wait to hear all about it!

*Elizabeth came up with this new nickname for Grammy this weekend.   It's probably temporary, but it's better than the unidentifiable, garbled sound that she used to say.

Meanwhile, back in Atlanta....

... Elizabeth was having the time of her life.   Here's how we know:

Thanks again to G. Jill and P. C. for taking such good care of Elizabeth!

New York City

John and I celebrated our fifth anniversary this weekend in New York City.  G. Jill and P. C. drove in from Arkansas to stay with Elizabeth so John and I could have this weekend away.  We were very grateful!

Our first stop in the city was to check in at the InterContinental Hotel in Midtown.  Somehow we managed to snag a major room upgrade and received a junior suite complete with a foyer, living room, work area, two bathrooms and a large bedroom.  Just after we arrived to our room, I received another fun surprise when John had a beautiful bouquet of flowers delivered to the room.  The weekend was off to a great start!

We spent Friday afternoon in the Rockefeller Center area where we grabbed lunch, shopped, and dodged the Veterans Day parade down 5th Avenue (this parade seriously lasted at least three hours).  We also went on the NBC tour and saw one of the MSNBC studios, the Dr. Oz studio (John had no idea who that was), and the SNL studio.  While at SNL, we spotted cast members Bill Hader and Seth Meyers.

Friday night was our anniversary dinner at Perilla in the West Village, a great recommendation by our good friend, Hillary.  The duck meatball appetizer was out of this world!

On Saturday morning, we headed out early to stand on the plaza during the Today show.  Although we didn't get any TV time, we chatted with weather guy Bill Karins for a few minutes after his weather report and then watched Lester Holt, Amy Robach and Bill Karins come out to the plaza for one last spot at the end of the show.  We watch the Today show every day so this was one of the highlights of the trip for us (nerdy, but true).

We spent most of Saturday afternoon walking and enjoying the beautiful Fall weather.  We walked from Midtown up to Central Park, found a great pizza spot for lunch, and then walked through the park up to the Met (where I had to get a picture on the steps in honor of Gossip Girl).  Later, we took the subway down to Brooklyn to visit our friends Meagan, Eric, Adam and to meet their new little guy, Ben.  The adults headed out for a great dinner and drinks in Park Slope.

Overall, it was a great weekend and a great way to spend our anniversary!

Big Kid Slide

This video is from a few weeks ago, when I took Elizabeth to our local bouncy gym.  The gym has a front area for toddlers and a back area for bigger kids.  Elizabeth had no interest in attempting the big slide in the big kid area until this visit.  On this particular day, she decided she was ready.  I went up with her the first time, but after one run she was ready to climb up on her own.  Here is a very confident Elizabeth having fun on the big slide.
