Super Why!

Friday night was a big treat for Elizabeth.  We went to see Super Why! Live, the stage version of one of her favorite PBS shows.  We had never taken her to a movie or live show before and weren't sure what her attention span would be, but she was completely mesmerized the entire time.  Elizabeth was very excited to wave her Princess Pea magic wand and look for super letters around the theater.

The lack of a post last weekend was due to our unexpected trip to the emergency room last Sunday.  Elizabeth was complaining that her stomach hurt all afternoon, and things took a turn for the worse around bedtime.  We were pretty sure that she was having... ahem... digestive issues, but when the on-call nurse mentioned things like appendicitis, we decided to head to the hospital in an abundance of caution.  After a series of very unpleasant tests and treatments, we were sent home around 3am with a diagnosis of constipation.  The doctor told us that is a common side effect when potty training.  Elizabeth would be so embarrassed if she knew I was blogging about her bowel movements.  Good thing she can't read!

After the hospital visit and a day of wearing diapers due to the side effects of the medicine she received at the hospital, I thought we would be back at square one with potty training.  Rather, Elizabeth picked up right where she left off and has been doing great.  The only accident we had this week was at nap time.  I think we need to move her to a bed so she can go to the potty when she needs to.

If At First You Don't Succeed....

... try potty training again!

This is the face of a girl who stayed dry all weekend, with only one tiny self-reported accident.  We thought this weekend was going to be round two of potty training "boot camp," but in fact, Elizabeth didn't require any training.  On Friday after school, I took her to Target to pick out her big girl underwear.  She was hoping to find some in her favorite color: black.  Rightfully so, Target does not sell toddler underwear in black, and I don't think Victoria's Secret carries size 3T.  So she settled for some Minnie Mouse underwear and another package of colorful solids.

Beginning Saturday morning, Elizabeth wore her big girl underwear all weekend.  She told us when she had to go to the potty, and we were sure to prompt her to go if more than 30 minutes or so had passed.  I wasn't sure what would happen at nap time, so I told her that if she woke up from her nap with dry underwear, we would go out for ice cream.  Hence the photo above.

We are still using a nighttime diaper since Elizabeth is still in a crib.  Once we confirm that the potty training is going to stick, we will think about moving to a big girl bed.

Elizabeth was so proud of herself and is excited to wear her underwear to school tomorrow.  We couldn't be more proud of our big girl!

More Fourth of July

We had a very festive Fourth this year.  Elizabeth's school had a parade on Tuesday afternoon to kick things off.  On Wednesday, we had a cookout with Elizabeth's friend Ella and her parents.  The girls had a great time running around on the playground and lighting sparklers.

Hotlanta

Generally, I am not a fan of the term "Hotlanta," but it pretty accurately describes the weather this weekend.  Saturday was a new record high for Atlanta at 106.  John and I went out for dinner on Saturday night, and when we were driving home at 8:30pm* it was 102.  I can only imagine what our power bill is going to be this month.

Needless to say, we didn't do much this weekend.  Our one family outing was to Trader Joe's on Sunday morning and then out for lunch.

*Yes, I see the humor in the fact that we were headed home from our date night at 8:30pm.  That's how we roll these days.
